In May, 2009, the City of Surrey implemented a partnership with Right To Play and Surrey’s schools to implement Surrey’s 2010 Challenge for Children that will continue through to the 2010 Winter Games.
Right To Play is a Canada-based international humanitarian organization that uses sport and play programs to improve health, develop life skills, and foster peace for children and communities in the most disadvantaged areas of the world. Every week over 600,000 children participate in Right To Play programs in 23 countries around the world. In Canadian schools the focus is on educating and awareness on the importance of the power of sport, leadership and social responsibility.
Your City, working in partnership with Right To Play, just completed a series of Olympian leadership presentations in more than 130 schools in Surrey reaching 70,000 students. The purpose of this program is to embrace the spirit of 2010 and impact global citizenry both in Surrey and around the world. The program will continue through to the 2010 Winter Games and include fundraising in support of Right To Play. Funds raised go to children around the world and another portion remains in student programs permanent to Surrey. One of the next steps is for the community to match fund Surrey’s School fundraiser projects or Join the Challenge to get involved as a community leader in your own unique way.

The Surrey 2010 Celebration Site is a 13 day FREE winter festival featuring live entertainment, live Games broadcasts, arts performances and on-site activities.
